My very first tiny sable, Zoe, was trained to snooze inside tucked in shirts or sleeves, etc. We were waiting for the bus and had I slid Zoe into my t shirt tucked into jeans with a big sweater over us. The crowded bus arrived and I boarded with this little bulging belly that I protectively laid my hand over. As I held on, a young fellow got up from his seat and said "you look like you are carrying precious cargo so here, take my seat". I thanked him as I sat down and the woman next to me looked down at my belly....we smiled. After several minuted of being jostled around during my ride, Zoe decided to shift and orbit around to my lower back area to snooze. I slid my hips forward to accommodate her automatically. Moments later the woman next to me stood up to exit and had an odd look on her face as she passed. I realized she must have seen Zoe migrate, making my "baby" disappear! But as I got off the bus, I must have looked like I had some
strange growth on my lower back now. I also wore her inside my sweater sleeve with the end closed in my palm. Many years later after she had died, one sleeve of most of my cotton sweaters that had a strange sag in them and I would always think of her and how we went everywhere together even to the San Francisco Ballet one evening but that's another description in and of itself!

Are You Afraid Your Ferret Will Outshine You At Our Photo shoot?
I have received a few emails from people worried about appearing in the upcoming calendar. Sure, the ferrets will look great - but most people hate to have their picture taken.
Well, don't worry. You don't have to be in the photo with your ferret(s)
We have a highly trained photographer who is skilled at bringing out the best in their subjects.
- Perhaps it would help to serve the margaritas before the photo shoot?
 Saturday - June 19th - LegalizeFerrets.org Ferret Photo shoot. A rare opportunity to bring your ferrets out to work on the cause of ferret legalization is coming.

The Other Parts of the Calendar
We are trying to include two sub-themes in the new calendar. We want to depict regular people who own, love and enjoy ferrets as well as famous ferret owners. At the moment, we're not doing terribly well at either. I'm really surprised in how difficult it has been to get 12 of our subscribers to give us a story and photo about their ferrets - but so far only one has.

I have two of the best ferrets in the whole world. I spend all day with them playing and giving kisses and belly tickles. They are my life. My ferrets keep me calm in moments of stress, all I have to do is look at there adorable little faces and my heart melts and so does my stress. They are the sweetest, cuddliest creatures I have ever known.If I didn't have them in my life I would be so sad. I love my ferrets so much.

I knew the celebrity part would be hard - but it has prooven to be impossible. We did get a list of celebrities but so far, we've had no contact with any of them.

Even if some how all of our famous persons agreed to send us a blurb about their ferret experiences - we'd still be short. I've heard Martha Stewart had ferrets but I can't confirm.- Anyone else? Help, time is running out. Also, I don't wish to use Paris Hilton because we want to present ourselves as responsible pet owners, not owners of disposable pets.
Things Are About To Get Even Busier
A number of things are coming together which will mean more activity in the legalize ferrets effort. Here is a brief run down;
• The calendar. Last year's calendar was a huge success. Not that we made a ton of money, but we made about $2500, sold about 1200 and gave out about 1200. Plus the production is great fun!
• The Ferret Legalization Environmental Impact Report. We are over 3/4's done with the initial study. We had to get our documentation in order before filing the official EIR Report. They are basically done with the North American Study, but how is the literature review coming? Our opponents have produced a lot of undocumented (studies with no facts behind them) about child-eating ferrets. How will that be handled?
• The September 25th Legalize Ferrets Revival. A big event in the Bay Area. In conjunction with the best speakers and program the ferret world has to offer - we're making a ferret video. We want something like the PBS "Pursuit of Excellence" - classy! The program should be announced July 1st.
• The 2010 Election. I said I wasn't going to vote. But I will vote No on Props 14 and 16. This election is revolting - all about billionaire/millionaire politicians slinging mud. Pacific Gas and Electric has pumped tens of millions of dollars to confuse voters about Prop 16 and Abel Maldonado, previously an anti-ferret assemblyman, now our Lt. Governor is trying to wipe third parties off the ballot with a "top two" initiative, Prop 14. And since I'm going to the polls I'm voting Tom Campbell for Senate.
The important thing about the election (and forgive my soap box above) is that we will know who will be running in November and we need to create a literature package to send to every candidate for state assembly and state senate as we try to get a legislative sponsor for 2010.
If we can't get a commitment from Jerry Brown or Meg Whitman by September 25th regarding ferret legalization - should we announce a write in campaign for Joe Ferret for Governor - Do it for the little guy.

Legalization of Ferrets
While this may not have national implications and it is not even likely to be solved in this term, the legalization of ferrets has been a pivotal issue in recent history. This may sound like a joke, but it is not. There are several groups and organizations that devote a lot of time, money, and effort into this issue. While I am one of the many pro-weasel people in this state, I do not see any governor solving this problem. For a tly and got the ferret vote, it was the weasel that got him the office.rue solution, they need to draft a law, sign a petition to get it on the ballot, and then pray that it passes.
While this is not an issue for the governor, it does have a large impact on the race. For the past three candidates to win the office, they were pro-ferret. Whether this is a coincidence is still yet to be proven, but there are tens of thousands of people that will vote this issue. With a group this large, going pro-ferret can certainly tip the polls in your favor when the race is close. It is thought that since Arnold was ferret friend

When You Write CLIFFNotes You Get To Show Off Your Pets
Thursdays and Saturdays are my days to clean and one fun thing is that the dogs and ferrets help me. I can't imagine doing laundry without a little help from my friends. I wish I had my camera when the ferrets were playing tug of war with my Golden Retriever - but I did capture these pictures:
My Golden Retriever is named Luna and the ferret is Bailey. They have a lot in common. I can't imagine what a sad household I would have if it weren't for the pets. But house cleaning and laundry would get done much faster.

Our efforts to get 75 people to sign up for Cisco's webex in the last issue was a flop. I was hoping to get half way there last week, and that would put the $1000 fee within reach. But only 5 people responded.
Not only for helping legalize ferrets but putting up with my rants, pictures and stories of my pets (please send in your own to share).
We are making great progress and things are about to get more interesting!
