Wheezie. Her pop was a stunt double for Arnold Schwarzenegger

(above) This is Tom, our oldest ferret. He is going on 6 yrs. He can’t see very well now, but still loves his rides in the stroller!

Correction
There must be some confusion regarding the OC Register articles (there are two). OCFerrets is not the non profit they are discussing, it is CDFEA.

I need some ideas!
My 3-yr old female, Shiloh, quit eating -- thought she had a blockage -- had surgery to remove it -- found hardly anything, except that her liver was ORANGE!
Dr. Cecil sent a biopsy to the lab, as we thought maybe it was a toxin ------ negative. It's been 2 weeks, she's over the surgery, but still won't eat. She's been on Marshall Farms her whole life, & won't even consider trying anything else. I'm getting some Wysong food for her, & duck soup. But I've had to force feed her, & she's lost over half of her body weight. Does anyone out there recognize this, or have any suggestions? I'm no newbie, & have had ferrets for 25 years, but this is a new one on me............... thanks----- Sioux.
Four year old ferret in the Palmdale area needs a home. Comes with cage. I don't have much in the ways of details. If interested please email taraf8@roadrunner.com

Calendar Shoot is Scheduled for June 19th in the San Diego area - We've Hired Our Photographer
Oh it was so hard to pick a photographer! More than 40 people applied for the gig. One was even a ferret owner.
I had my favorites but I asked Yvonne R for help. Her favorites weren't on my list. So I sent out an email to all the 3,000 Club members in San Diego. What did I get? Recommendations for still more photographers.
Then I asked Heidi our graphic artist. One name was on everyone's favorite - Jared Schoenemann.
Having to do a lot of the prep work ourselves has given me new appreciation for Jamie K - our photographer for last year's calendar. The 2011 Calendar will be very different.
Jamie set up elaborate props - this year people will be the best prop. Jared's idea:
(An Inspiration is) Sharon Montrose. Most of her studio stuff is too simple, but under her portfolio "pet's & people" there are some great shots of animals interacting with people. This could give a great sense of how wonderful & loving Ferrets really are, that they aren't vicious or mean, as some think (I also had 4 rats in my life, and they were amazing little guys and I loved them very much. People don't believe how smart & loving they were).
I would love to get a mixture of both studio & natural interactive settings. Less so on party props. I don't know how open you are to mixing it up. Let me know what you prefer.
On the shoot day I will set up the backdrop and lights, and I'll just shoot everything. Studio setups, people and the ferrets playing, anything cool that happens that day, I'll shoot it.
This goes along nicely with our theme for 2011 - Ferrets Are More Fun, they're part of the family, and isn't it past time they were legal. Or as John W put it “Ferrets are a fun part of our family life and should be legal.”
You Are Invited
The official photo shoot is from 3 to 5 pm. Please bring your photogenic ferrets, your photogenic children and your photogenic selves. There is a ferret proof room but please bring a kennel to keep your ferrets safe.
The after photo shoot party is from 5 to 7pm. Tacos and Margaritas on the outside deck. Someone care to bring dessert?
I will only give out location to people in our database, but it is in La Mesa. Please call or email if you are interested.
The Sub Themes
This calendar is all about ferrets and people. As in last year's calendar where we had "12 things you might not know about ferrets" and 12 individual stories how the ridiculous/unfair ferret ban affected ordinary people, the 2011 calendar will have a sub theme.
First is ordinary people - the people on this mailing list who own ferrets. Puleeze send in your photos and brief stories - How Have Ferrets Enriched Your Life?
Second is 12 Famous People Who Have Owned Ferrets

The Smother's Brothers are widly known to be early ferret owners. What a great photo for this context |
2008 Presidential Candidate John McCain went on record as a ferret owner |
Who else comes to mind? I really don't want to ask Paris Hilton because she is an example of impulsive and irresponsible pet ownership.
If you know a famous person who owned ferrets, let me know and I'll send them a very nice letter asking if they will be in our 2011 calendar.
I've heard Howie Mandel and even Arnold Schwarzenegger owned ferrets. Now is the time to use contacts and see who else celebrity wise can and will help us.
And - if these celebrities would sign a calendar we could auction them off to pay for the final $7,000 we are going to need for the actual Environmental Impact Report.
I hope to unveil the finished calendar at the September 25th Legalize Ferrets Revival in Concord.
Speakers Firming Up for the September 25th Legalize Ferrets Revival
We received some exciting news from Dr Rene Gandolfi about his upcoming talk to us September 25th:
For specifics. There appears to be a couple of ways to prevent the development of adrenal disease in ferrets that don't as yet have the disease. Considering that over 50% of ferrets will develop AD in their lifetime, prevention has enormous value. In addition, it seems possible that with drugs like Lupron and Deslorelin, many AD cases can be managed medically, thus avoiding the cost and troubles associated with adrenal surgery. In addition, I have some "hot" news about a vaccine that is being developed to prevent AD.
In the case of Distemper vaccination, two studies (not published yet) have evidence that as much as 90% of ferrets that have been properly vaccinated against distemper may not need boosters yearly, and may even be protected for the rest of their lives. Considering how terrible vaccine reactions are, this information might have serious impact on our vaccination strategies.
We finally heard back from Melinda T. She has agreed to start off the show with a talk on what every new ferret owner needs to know. I'm sure it will be unintended hillarious.
Bob Church is also going to speak on his direct finding regarding the New Zealand polecat-ferret crosses that our opponents gleefully point to as an example of ferrets damaging wildlife.
Jeanne Carley is going to give the talk she gave to the International Ferret Congress - the first time for west of the Mississippi.
More speakers are planned. The complete program will hopefully be published July 1st.
Help Us Make an Extra Thousand Bucks This Week!
We've teamed up with SkyCorp this week in trying to get 75 people to sign up for a trial copy of Cisco's Webex meeting software (competitor is GoTo Meeting). If we can get 75 people to sign up they will send us $1000 for the Environmental Impact Report.
Step 2 - 2. Click the Orange link that has a radio picture (this is very important!)
Step 3 - Fill out that first form (Learn more) and use radio promo code: Computer (also very important)
Step 4 - Click "Start Now" and fill out last page. This is really meant for companies but anyone wishing to conference call is the intended target. You can make up a company name
Step 5 - On the second page if people don't want to get called just uncheck the "contact" box or change the last digit of your phone number.
Step 6 - Click Sign Up and wait for the welcome screen. Once you signup you'll get one email from Webex saying "welcome". You'll get one more when your trial is about to expire. Again, Cisco doesn't spam or sell this list...you won't get any other emails from them.
Do it for the little guy!
Check back next week or on Joe Ferret's Facebook page to see if we made it!
In Conclusion
There is sure a lot going on - and many ways you can help ferret legalization.
The Primary Election is only a few weeks away. We will really work the candidates for Governor, State Senate and State Assembly to support our efforts. The preliminary work on our Environmental Impact Report is just about done - guess what, no dangerous ferrets out there destroying the crops of preying on wildlife.
Send us your personal story and photo for the calendar (these will be used thumb-nail style) and if you have any famous ferret owning friends - or know of any, send em in!
Sign up for a sample Webex account. An extra thousand bucks would make our life easier. We're not doing too badly regarding funds - but hey, a lot of this is on my credit card. And when they raised my rate to 22% I cancelled the card!
Continue to send cute photos and stories from your ferrets!
Thank you again. I'm very pleased how everything is coming together. Don't under estimate what we are up against; ignorance, apathy, out-right lies and of course that good ol' California state government incompetence. But we're going to make it!
Do it for the little guy!
