Busy at the OC Pet Expo

Besides LegalizeFerrets.org, the California Domestic Ferret Education Association and the San Gabriel Valley Chapter of Ferrets Anonymous are at the Orange County Pet Expo this weekend.  Hopefully this week's CLIFFNotes is going out a little earlier because I'm working the 2 to 6 pm shift, then have to pack everything up and drive the 90 minutes back to La Mesa.  Next week we will welcome all the new people who signed up for CLIFFNotes.

Last minute update - Lance reports the ferret booths have been busy!

Furry Vengeance
Ferrets again working as weasels:

A new movie is playing and ferrets have a small roll. Looks like a cute movie, but here is the downside as explained by Teela G.
The new Furry Vengeance movie with Brendan Fraser has ferrets in it, as wild animals that live in the woods. This could be bad. It shows ferrets surviving very well in the wild, which is very bad for everything we are trying to disprove. I am glad the ferrets are the "good guys" so to speak. But they are not wild animals on par with raccoons. It's like the media is secretly plotting against legalizing ferrets in California.

And Another Ferret Fights for Life
I received a phone call from Nadine on Thursday.  They rescued a ferret only to have it crash.  Nadine and husband (significant other?) had at the time an $810 vet bill and were off to the pawn shop to raise funds.  So we are passing the hat for Rose and here is her story:
Rose is a creamy colored female ferret who was rescued from an abusive household a little over a week ago. Her new owners already love her dearly. She came to our hospital dehydrated, weak and very sick. We started her on fluids and medicine and ran some tests. We found that she has a severe infection and probable insulinoma. She doing OK, but has a long road to recovery in front of her.

So here's the hat. If you can spare a couple of bucks you can either send them here with Paypal or send a donation directly to the hospital with a note saying it is for Rose.

In Conclusion

Its been a demanding week getting ready for and setting up the OC Pet Expo. I hope we get a lot of sign ups!

But a lot more things are about to happen.  We are anxiously waiting the update on our Environmental Impact Report - we should be at the 3/4ths mark but I haven't received the third report yet.

We are in Concord for a Legalize Ferrets meeting on Saturday, September 25th.  I'm planning on all sorts of wonderful things including a professional video production.  Which means I probably will cancel the YouTube competition, not sure though.  My thanks to Aaron and Kathryn for going through all the proposals.  Some very interesting proposals were sent to us.

Time to plan the photo shoot for our next Legalize Ferrets calendar.  It isn't something I plan on doing every year but next year is going to be our year - so we should do another calendar.  The 2010 Legalize Ferrets calendar featured 12 stories about how the ban has affected Californians (or wanna be Californians) and 12 things you may not know about ferrets.  What should we do for the 2011 Calendar.  Ferret success stories?  Because that is what we are aiming for in 2010 - SUCCESS!
