Lisa T. here, member of the 3000 Club...

I manage homeowners associations and I receive legal updates from different attorneys I work with. The article below is a portion of what they emailed yesterday. I attached the link I was totally ROTFLMAO as I was reading it! I thought you and the other readers of Cliff Notes might enjoy it too!!

Take care, Lisa

We were not prepared to bring any babies back from Tahoe with us earlier in the month (although it was close, I was one checkbook away from two, 9-wk old babies from Petco in Carson City), but we will be next time!  Until then, yesterday we found our 'legal California ferret' a poor substitute, but hey, we do what we must.

Ferret Stuff Available in Oceanside

We have some ferret stuff that we'd like to offer up free to a good home.  Everything is clean and in good condition.  Our only request is that the recipient take the entire lot of stuff (i.e. all or nothing).  Let us know if you know of anyone that might be interested in it.  The pick up would be at our house in Oceanside.

Thanks!

Doug and Steve.

Ferret People Are Normal, Too

Hi! I like to give my ferrets shoulder rides, and as silly as it is to pretend that their tail is a mustache! When i do this with a particular ferret of mine, Mitty, his tail smells like corn tortillas! Is that normal?

Here is Batman snoozing with his tootsies hanging out. Batman was a rescue from Carlsbad, Ca. He & his sister Robin were thrown outside in a cage , harassed by huge dogs and living off Timothy Hay.....REALLY! They are both living the happy good life here in San Diego now.

Third Report from Sacramento State University Due

Any day now, we're expecting the third of four reports from Dr. Geo Graening and his staff at Sac State regarding the studies currently being done in preparation for filing the ferret legalization Environmental Impact Report.  If you are new to CLIFFNotes, the first two reports failed to show any impact from domestic ferrets anywhere in the US or Canada.  - We do not expect to see any impact shown in the third or fourth reports either.

We have heard from the Senate Natural Resources Committee that even if the EIR shows no consequences from domestic ferrets, neither the Governor nor the Fish and Game Commission can legalize ferrets without legislative action.  The Executive Director of the Fish and Game Commission has not answered our certified letter asking clarification (not a good sign)  - A letter needs to go out to Governor Schwarzenegger with the same question.

We will be working very hard on those people running for Governor, State Senate and State Assembly as we try to secure a sponsor for next year.

The O.C. Pet Expo is Coming to the Costa Mesa Fairgrounds April 16th through 18th - we'll Be There, and we need help!

California's largest pet expo (actually the only pet expo I know of) will be at the Costa Mesa Fairgrounds on April 16th through the 18th.  We are all set in terms of literature, banners, signs, etc.  Our goal is to get people to sign up for this newsletter, CLIFFNotes and eventually get them to join the 3000 Club and help in the effort to legalize ferrets in California.

So far two other people have signed up to work the booth, here's who helping and time lines available.

If you can work a shift please email CLIFFNotes@legalizeferrets.org so I can get you your parking pass and entrance tickets.

The San Gabriel Valley Ferrets Anonymous Chapter and the California Domestic Ferret Educational Alliance (CDFEA) are also having their own tables and will probably need people to work them as well.
We're Almost Booked at the Concord Holiday Inn for September 25th

We're going to hold a Legalize Ferrets Revival in Concord on Saturday September 25th at the Holiday Inn in Concord.  Never have I had such a hard time finding space but we came in under budget.  The Boxer (dog) club is meeting the same day - and they get to take their pets out in public.

A number of interesting speakers are planned.  We will be inviting Governor Schwarzenegger, Jerry Brown and either Meg Whitman or Steve Poizner.  Don't hold your breath - expect a brush off at best.  But we'll make ourselves known to them.

I'm working on finding a speaker on ferret behavior - does anyone really understand how a ferret brain works?

But the part I'm most excited about is producing a ferret video at the event - so prepare to be interviewed.  I put an ad in Craigslist for a videographer:

We are holding a statewide meeting for LegalizeFerrets.org on September 25th in Walnut Creek. I'd like to have a video made where ferret owners are interviewed, shots of pet ferrets included (there won't be ferrets at the event) are inserted into the video (or video of ferrets can be taken off site) and a coherent message is produced, what our pets mean to us and why they need to be legalized. I'm looking for someone with a creative bent who can run with this project.

So far 18 qualified leads have come in.  It is going to be very hard to select one, I set the budget at $2,500.

A few samples:
I would like to have all bids formalized for next week CLIFFNotes so we can get member feedback.  Would anyone care to organize the bids?

And - I'm very exited about this, we've asked Animal Planet to get involved with this, either in airing the video or covering it's production and our event.  One of their producers lives in San Jose - so it could work out!

Ferrets key to bridging the digital divide between cities and rural areas

My thanks to people who sent in this story.  It shows the different perceptions of ferrets between the United Kingdom and California.  You can read the article here.

In Conclusion

There you have it, the week's news ferret-wise.

A little hard to put this together on Easter Sunday, plus the earthquake was a distraction.  I was eating Easter dinner in the dining room of La Costa Glen Retirement home.  I've never seen old people move so fast.  You'd think people who have lived through so much could eat dinner through a 7.2 earthquake from Mexico.

My computer is on its last breath.  I've really had it with Dell and Hewlett Packard products. I've gone through so many monitors, hard drives, mother boards, etc. They don't show much quality.  And the Indian support from HP is enough to drive anyone nuts.  I'd like to buy a ZT Affinity.  But if anyone builds computers and can offer a deal - call me.  Plus we need the Adobe Creative Suite (CS4) and MS Office to put CLIFFNotes together.  I have everything Microsoft except Access, so if you have a copy to share - though I can download a copy of Access 7 for $49.

Glad to report that my crew is happy and healthy.  We certainly miss Quito who passed away two weeks ago.  I enjoy watching our 10 week old Golden Retriever play with the two new ferrets.  I should be alarmed at 2 lb ferrets taking on such an energetic dog but too be honest - usually I'm too tired.  Ferrets Bailey and Tiger just pounce on Luna.  Fausto (pictured with Luna) is older and doesn't put up with any sh*t.  I've decided they must be such good friends because they have so much in common.  So much energy and someone to play with! (same brain size, too!) -How much I enjoy pets, pitty the dimwitted who reply to my Craigslist Ads:
Isn't it about time ferrets were legal?
I strongly disagree!

Here's what I know:

Ferrets are illegal in CA if there is a child in the house under 2 years of age. There have been accounts of ferrets harming babies because their breath smells like formula.

I have a 10 month old and if my pet ever harmed or (Heaven forbid!!) lead to the death of my child, I would go ballistic! Especially if a law was set in place for her protection.

However, I would never let any caged animal around my child. So, in part, it's poor judgment of the parents.

We still have so much more to do!

Thank you,
