A Blatant Commercial
Wysong put us on a nice affiliate program giving us a percentage of each sale generated through us.  Each morning after I clean up the cage I fill the small bowl with Wysong Ferret Archetypal-2™.  It is a feeding frenzy.  I will try to video tape it for next week's CLIFFNotes as the photos don't do it justice.  Their normal diet is the Marshall Diet.  I prefer to offer everyone a choice of foods, I'm still scarred from the toxic Chinese ingredients fiasco from a few years back.

Can you help me with any of these issues?

I can't get a response from West Coast Ferrets.  The phone has been disconnected.  I am trying to hook up with other ferret owners.  I have been trying for at least 6 months.  Do you know what the problem might be?   I'm also looking for someone to watch our ferrets in June for 10 days while we are gone back east.  Is there a list, by location somewhere of people willing to do this?

We really prefer to take them with us.  We can drive to Reno and fly out of that airport but I'm having trouble finding an airline that will let ferrets in the cabin.  I found out that rule# GRS 4514/2-11 says Delta allows ferrets in cabin but don't know if it is still in effect.  Delta is telling me ferrets are not allowed.  Does anyone know which is true?

Please send your answers to CLFIFNotes@legalizeferrets.org and I will forward them to Lynn.

Ferret Lucky - This Time!

I have a weird but true story; I have a 1lb tiny female ferret named Mojita.
decided to bring my little fur baby with me house sitting at my parents 6 acre ranch. My mother's dogs have been long known to be cat killers, rabbit killers, squirrel killers and anything smaller than they are.  Talk about hurting the wildlife... - One day little Mojita squirmed through a dryer hose into the backyard without us realizing it. Suddenly, it seemed a little too quiet in the house so I began calling her and searching the perimeter. That's when I heard the Aussies of death barking up a storm. My heart lept! I flew out the door to find the two 50 lb Aussies being held off by a 1 lb ferret! Big hearts can come in small packages.

I order Revolution from www.petshed.com without a prescription. It it pretty reasonably priced. My vet wanted to charge me almost double the price.

More on the Michelle Bowers Case

I just have to make a comment about this ferret apparently eating this girls face off. Ferrets are not viscous animals! Obviously this family was not taking care of there ferret. they  probably weren't feeding it or possibly not giving in proper nutrition. When I was a baby my ferret Fernley would sleep in my crib with me and snuggle next to me to keep me warm never ever did he bit me or as so much as scratch me when I was little my mother is proof of that. I am now on my second ferret and I could never imagine my life without a ferret. People should not blame ferrets for there owners miss care!

We're Almost Ready for the OC Pet Expo

April 16, 17 & 18 at the Costa Mesa Fair Grounds

Officially called "America's Family Pet Expo," LegalizeFerrets.org has reserved our own table.   The goal is to build our email list for CLIFFNotes, educate the public about ferrets.  We are not selling any merchandise and we can't accept donations.

We need our booth staffed on:
• Friday from 10am to 6 pm
• Saturday from 10am to 7pm
• Sunday 10am to 6pm

Please let me know if you can help!

My thanks to Lance M. for the 3 photos on the left.  They will be blown up to 3'x2' and mounted on foam board.  In addition, we have our big "Subscribe to CLIFFNotes" banner.

We have 800 Calendars to give away and a number of tent cards.

In addition, 5,000 "Test Your Ferret Knowledge" brochures are on their way.

Click above to open the ferret quiz.

We will have a low-tech clipboard and try to sign up all the interested ferret owners who wander by to sign up for CLIFFNotes and later on hope they join the 3000 Club.  Plus we will hopefully educate a few hundred people about ferrets in the process.

The show is fascinating.  Sign up to work a four hour shift then spend some time seeing the show.
Even More Ferret Groups at America's Family Pet Expo

In addition to the LegalizeFerrets.org table at the OC Pet Expo, 2-1/2 other groups will also be exhibiting at the event. Ferrets Anonymous and the California Domestic Ferret Educational Alliance (with support from OCFerrets) will also be exhibiting Friday through Sunday at the Orange County Fairgrounds Exhibition Center. Come out and support the groups that work tirelessly to support, educate and advocate for domestic ferrets! We all hope to see you there!

Do We Finally Have a Place for our Northern California Meeting?

After so many phone calls that I started to call places for the second time (referrals from certain locations) I believe we have a pretty good meeting space at the Holiday Inn Concord.

Our exact date of September 25th is not available but we can move it later or earlier, though CDFEA has a motorcycle ride right around that date.  Stay tuned.  By September our Environmental Impact Report should be officially filed and we'll be on our way!  Any recommendations for speakers or programs?  The goal is to make an informative, fun and interactive program on ferret legalization and ferrets in general.  Dr Gandolfi has already volunteered to speak.  We will be inviting the candidates for Governor (don't hold your breath) and even Arnold himself - who could use the opportunity to explain a few things... like his veto.
Pet Education Season in Orange County Gets Underway

Each year, the beginning of Spring is the official kickoff in Orange County for the many pet educational opportunities that are available to teach the public about domestic ferrets. Starting things off, is an event is held at the Costa Mesa Swapmeet (also known as the OC Marketplace) called Pet Days. This event is geared to be animal rescue-

friendly, but draws in hundreds and hundreds of people who all browse the rescues on hand to see if they can find a new forever friend, or buy products for their pets. The California Domestic Ferret Educational Alliance has been taking part in this event since it began two years ago. The event is held twice annually (Spring & Fall) and is always a great way to reach out the public. CDFEA spent yesterday as well as today working to educate the public that showed up to Pet Days, as well as solicit others to take part in its Ferret Fun Ride scheduled for September of this year. Be on the lookout for more information on the Ferret Fun Ride, or visit www.ferreted.org for up-to-date info.

Elections for 2010 are About to Start!

According to an article in today's San Diego Union Tribune 300 people have signed up and qualified to run for 80 seats in the state assembly and 20 in the state senate.  A record number of new legislators will be elected in November.  Because most legislative districts are drawn to protect the party in power - most winners will be known after the June primary.

We will be sending each candidate an introduction letter before the primary and the "Test Your Ferret Knowledge" quiz.  Our hope is they will bother to answer it or at least acknowledge it.  We will consider those people our friends and allies.  After the primary we will send each candidate a professional media ket about ferret legalization.  if anyone wishes to help in this project, please step forward!
California Dreamin' (I want a video!)

One of my dreams - and as we grow and continue to have more resources the dream may come closer - is a video to introduce California ferrets and their owners.  Kind of a California version of the Pursuit of Excellence video done by PBS.

(click on the image to play the video which is just a preview)

The video PBS did centered around the Buckeye Ferret show, I'd like to focus on ordinary Californians.  The people who own ferrets, deal with ferrets, etc.

I actually did get an estimate of $10 to $15,000 to produce such a video - but who will watch it?  Ideally we'd like an independent media company to produce and air the video.  We've got all sorts of talent out there - and even people with connections to Animal Planet.  How about it, any ideas on this?

After all, when the EIR is done, ferrets could be in the news.
In Conclusion

A lot of stuff is sure going on:

Ferret Legalization EIR
OC Pet Expo
2010 Election
Northern California Ferret Meeting

-All this, and we need to schedule another ferret photo shoot for the 2011 calendar.  The 2010 photo shoot was the most fun I've ever had at a ferret meeting.  Are you ready Jamie and Heidi. Fausto is looking awfully good and is ready to star for another year:

Plus Tiger and Bailey aren't camara shy either!

Again - thank you everyone for sticking with us.  This quotation is on the Legalize Ferrets database.

Life is never more fun than when you're the underdog competing against the giants.

So we're having fun and we're getting there!
